It is therefore worth measuring regularly and taking action if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Causes_of_a_pH_value_that_is_too_high\"><\/span>Causes of a pH value that is too high<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A pH value that is too high can have various causes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tap water with a high pH value and high carbonate hardness<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Incorrect decoration, e.g. calcareous stones or mussel shells<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Insufficient filtration or ventilation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Excessive water changes with hard water<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But don&#8217;t worry \u2013 there are numerous ways to lower the pH value naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Natural_methods_for_lowering_the_pH_value\"><\/span>Natural methods for lowering the pH value<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Peat_filtering\"><\/span>1. Peat filtering<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Peat fibres in the filter release humic acids into the water, which lower the pH value and at the same time colour the water a light amber colour &#8211; just like in many natural biotopes. They also release humic substances, gently lower the pH value and also have a slight antibacterial effect. CO\u2082 addition<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>CO\u2082 fertilisation for plants has a direct effect on the pH value: The formation of carbonic acid lowers the pH value. Use osmosis water<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to lower the pH value in the long term, it can be useful to use osmosis water. It is virtually free of hardness formers, making the pH value easier to control. Lower the value slowly over several days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Chemical pH reducers:<\/strong> These work quickly, but often only for a short time &#8211; and can lead to dangerous fluctuations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lime-containing decoration:<\/strong> Stones such as marble or shells release lime and harden the water.
