One crucial aspect is the type of water in which the Triops live. Since Triops are freshwater animals, all other tank mates must also be freshwater animals. The water temperature is another important point that is vital for the survival of all aquarium inhabitants. It is essential that the water temperature is suitable for triops and snails alike, regardless of whether you associate them with shrimp or fish.

Only then can all inhabitants thrive under the same conditions. It is crucial to consider the needs of all aquarium inhabitants before starting the socialisation. This means carefully checking the temperature range, water conditions and compatibility of all inhabitants. This will ensure that all creatures remain happy and healthy. In the following, we will look at which snail species can be socialised well with Triops.

These snail species can be kept in the Triops aquarium

Now that we know what conditions to look out for when keeping Triops and snails together, we can look at which snail species can be kept in an aquarium with Triops without any problems.

Apple snails

Apple snails are very popular among aquarium owners because they are easy to care for and at the same time a fascinating sight. Originally from Asia, they got their name from their resemblance to a variety of apple. As excellent cleaners in the aquarium, they feed on dead plant material and non-usable remains of fish food. When keeping apple snails, a correct balance of calcium and pH in the water is of great importance. These two factors ensure the health of the apple snails’ shells and should be checked regularly. Ideally, the calcium content should be high and the pH value between 7 and 7.5.

Another aspect that should be considered when keeping apple snails in an aquarium is sufficient space. As apple snails grow quickly, they need plenty of space to move around freely. An aquarium with at least 25 litres per apple snail is recommended. Apple snails are peaceful creatures and can be socialised well with other fish species and plants in the aquarium. However, it is important to remember that certain fish species can pose a threat to apple snails by chasing them or attacking their shells. Therefore, care should be taken to keep only compatible and peaceful inhabitants together with the apple snails to ensure a harmonious coexistence.

Racing snails

Racing snails are also very popular among aquarium owners looking for an effective cleaning solution for their aquarium. Originally from Africa, they got their name because of their fast movement in the water. Racing snails are known for their outstanding ability to consume algae, waste and inedible parts of fish food, making them a valuable contribution to the cleanliness and health of the aquarium. A significant factor in keeping racing snails in the aquarium is the provision of adequate hiding places.

As racing snails need plenty of space to hide and rest, it is advisable to set up an aquarium with sufficient hiding places. Another aspect that should be considered when caring for racing snails in the aquarium is appropriate feeding. Racing snails are omnivores and need a varied diet that includes algae, dead plants and inedible parts of fish food in order to develop optimally and feel comfortable. By paying careful attention to these factors, you can ensure that the racing snails stay healthy and active while improving the water quality in the aquarium.

Spring bubble snails

Spring bubble snails are an extremely valuable addition to many aquariums. They are considered extremely practical and useful as they contribute significantly to the cleanliness and health of the aquarium. These small creatures are often kept specifically to eat algae, waste and indigestible parts of fish food. It is of utmost importance to ensure adequate hiding places for the spring bladder snails in the aquarium. Although they are extremely active, they also need times to hide and rest. Therefore, the aquarium should provide sufficient space for plants and gravel banks to meet the needs of these snails.

At the same time, a sufficient food supply is of great importance to maintain the health of the spring bladder snails in the aquarium. As omnivores, they need a varied diet that includes algae, dead plants and indigestible parts of fish food. By paying special attention to these aspects, you can ensure that the spring-bladder snails in the aquarium feel comfortable and can fulfil their important role in maintaining the ecological balance in the tank.

Triops are becoming increasingly popular as aquarium inhabitants.
