The species Triops longicaudatus is native to North America and is one of the most popular species. After 14 days, the females begin laying their eggs in the sand by burying them there. A female Triops can lay between 80 and 200 eggs a day on average. This means that a single animal is enough to fill the sand with Triops eggs within a few days. Once the Triops have reached the end of their life cycle, you and your children can dry the sand containing the eggs, freeze it, and then start a new breeding cycle on your own. For breeding, you can use still mineral water, distilled water or natural water from lakes, streams, rivers or ponds. Rainwater can also be used.
