Prehistoric crabs are a fascination and enrichment for every child’s room. For the first time, children learn social responsibility for a living creature from hatching to the end of its life. Due to the relatively short lifespan of two to three months, there is no overly strong bond, such as that of a cat or a dog. Triops longicaudatus is the American Triops species with a shimmering grey carapace and a long forked tail. Triops longicaudatus is a very fast-growing animal and sexually mature within two weeks.
After 14 days, the Triops females are able to lay eggs and bury them in the sand. After the end of their life, you can dry the sand with the eggs, freeze them and then start a new breeding. Due to the rapid growth of the Triops, it will certainly never be boring in the aquarium. Triops longicaudatus need a temperature in the range of 25° C and can be bred with distilled water, still mineral water or river and lake water.
Take this fascinating journey into the past and experience prehistoric times with your children – at home in your living room!
