Triops longicaudatus: The American prehistoric crustacean
Triops longicaudatus is a so-called living fossil and is one of the oldest animal species on Earth today. Its appearance has hardly changed in over 200 million years; it therefore existed long before the dinosaurs and even survived their extinction. This freshwater prehistoric crustacean is characterised by its rapid growth and short life cycle. It reaches sexual maturity after just a few weeks and begins laying eggs in the sand. Its hardy eggs can survive long periods of drought, thus ensuring the survival of new generations.
By breeding Triops, your children develop a sense of social responsibility as they care for a living creature – from hatching right through to the end of its life. As Triops have a very short lifespan, children do not form an overly strong attachment, as they might with another animal. The species Triops longicaudatus grows very quickly and reaches sexual maturity within 14 days.
After that, the female Triops begin laying eggs in the sand. More precisely, they bury them in the sand. Once the last Triops population has died, you can dry the eggs, freeze them and use them for a new breeding cycle. Triops longicaudatus thrive at temperatures around 25°C and can be bred using still mineral water, distilled water, or river and sea water.
Number of eggs counted individually and guaranteed!
At Triops Galaxy, breeding kits are available both as part of starter packs and sets, and individually – with a choice of 50, 150 or 300 Triops eggs.
Whilst many commercially available breeding kits provide only approximate quantities and the actual number of eggs remains unknown, Triops Galaxy is committed to full transparency and reliability. Each breeding kit contains at least the specified number of Triops eggs.
This is made possible by a specially developed process in which the Triops eggs are counted individually by hand. In this way, the number of eggs is not estimated but determined precisely – a quality standard that clearly sets it apart from conventional Triops kits.
