Our best-selling starter kit: Triops Starter Pack Mini
Triops are a fascinating addition to any child’s bedroom, as they give children their first opportunity to learn to take social responsibility for a living creature. Thanks to their short lifespan of up to 90 days, children do not become overly attached to the animals. Triops longicaudatus is an American species with a long forked tail and a shimmering carapace. It is a very fast-growing creature and reaches sexual maturity within 14 days.
Female Triops are able to lay eggs after about two weeks and bury them in the sand. Once the Triops have reached the end of their lives, you can dry the eggs with the sand, freeze them and then start a new breeding cycle. Thanks to the rapid growth of the Triops, things will certainly never get boring in the aquarium. Triops longicaudatus require a temperature of around 25°C and can be bred using distilled water, still mineral water, or river and lake water. Water from a pond can also be used.
Who is the Triops Starter Pack Mini suitable for?
The Triops Starter Pack Mini is ideal for anyone new to triops breeding, families with children, amateur biologists, and educational institutions such as schools and universities. Experienced triops breeders and those with an interest in science will also appreciate the quality of the Triops Galaxy starter packs. The Mini Starter Pack comes with Triops Galaxy’s high-quality Triops breeding kit and spirulina feed for young Triops for the first few days of feeding.
With Triops Galaxy, the Triops eggs are counted
Standard Triops breeding kits usually consist of dried sand containing the eggs. The number of eggs contained is usually merely estimated. As Triops eggs are not evenly distributed in the sand, the actual number can vary significantly – the kit may contain more, but just as easily far fewer eggs than stated. Neither the buyer nor the seller ultimately has any reliable certainty regarding the actual number of eggs.
Triops Galaxy has deliberately taken a different approach for years. Here, the Triops eggs are counted manually and individually, ensuring that the stated number is precisely met. This eliminates the usual guesswork and hope – instead, customers receive a breeding kit with a guaranteed number of eggs and verifiable quality.

How are triops fed?
Triops are omnivores and extremely adaptable when it comes to their diet. They spend most of the day burrowing through the substrate, consuming organic matter and filtering the finest particles from the water. In addition to plant matter and microorganisms, they also consume animal matter – even cannibalism is part of their natural behaviour. Particularly when food is scarce or there are significant size differences within the group, smaller or weaker individuals may be eaten. This behaviour is a natural survival mechanism and not an unusual phenomenon.
Due to their rapid growth, Triops have a very active metabolism. In home breeding, the natural food supply in the water is therefore insufficient, which is why targeted feeding by the breeder is essential. The correct approach is particularly important in the first few days of life, as the animals are especially sensitive during this phase.
Active feeding begins around 48 hours after hatching. A very small amount is crucial here: a pinch of spirulina powder is perfectly sufficient as food for the young. This fine algae powder is easily digestible and ideally suited to the needs of young triops. Overfeeding must be avoided at all costs, as excess food can quickly deteriorate water quality and endanger these sensitive creatures.
