With Triops Galaxy, I am pursuing a clear goal: to combine a fascination with living fossils with a responsible approach to our environment. For me, sustainability is not a marketing promise, but an integral part of the entire shop concept. From product design and packaging to the communication of information.
Digital breeding instructions instead of paper
A key component of this approach is the deliberate decision not to provide printed breeding instructions. Every Triops breeding kit from Triops Galaxy comes with a modern label containing a QR code. Buyers can use this QR code to access the breeding instructions directly online or download them as a PDF file.

From January 2026, paper instructions will no longer be sent out. Instead, buyers will receive exclusive access to the digital breeding instructions. No app, no registration and no additional effort required:
Open the camera, scan the QR code – and the instructions are immediately available. 📱 ➡️ ♻️ 😎

This consistently reduces paper consumption, printing costs and unnecessary waste without compromising on convenience or comprehensibility. The digital instructions can be accessed at any time, can be updated and are also permanently available for use in the event of a repeat breeding attempt. This is not only environmentally friendly, but also in keeping with the times.

A printed manual will only be included upon request. Please specify this in the comments section when placing your order.
Environmentally friendly packaging with plant-based cushioning chips
I also rely on sustainable solutions for shipping at Triops Galaxy. I use antistatic cushioning chips that are 100 percent biodegradable for packaging parcels and packages. These filling and cushioning chips are made from plant-based raw materials and contain no plastic whatsoever.
The cushioning chips used adapt perfectly to the shape and size of the products, are durable, shock-absorbing and antistatic – ideal for the safe transport of sensitive goods. After unpacking, they can simply be disposed of in organic waste or even dissolved in water. This means that no long-lasting packaging waste is created that pollutes the environment.
Digital sustainability through GNU/Linux and free software
Sustainability does not end with packaging or shipping, but begins with the digital infrastructure. Websites and servers also consume resources. That is why I consciously use the GNU/Linux operating system and free open-source software both privately and at Triops Galaxy. I have been using Linux privately since 2011. The free operating system is characterised by stability, security and comparatively low resource consumption.
Its efficiency helps to save energy and extend the service life of the hardware used. This concept is complemented by the use of WordPress, free open-source software that does not require licence fees and is continuously developed by a global community of developers.
Responsibility beyond the product
For me, sustainability means taking responsibility beyond the actual product. By using digital solutions, environmentally friendly packaging materials and resource-saving processes, every step is consciously questioned and optimised.
The result is an online shop that not only provides knowledge about ancient crustaceans and offers high-quality breeding approaches, but also demonstrates that species protection, environmental awareness and modern e-commerce are compatible with one another.
Triops Galaxy represents a new generation of aquatics shops: innovative, responsible and future-oriented – in harmony with nature.
